Inclusive Worship at St. Thomas More
St. Thomas More Parish serves the Catholic student body of Oklahoma University and is located immediately adjacent to its Norman, OK, campus. A hearing loop was an essential feature in the Oklahoma parish’s new church construction project. In new construction, particularly, Assist2Hear works closely with the general contractor and flooring company, amongst other vendors, to ensure a smooth installation that keeps the project on schedule. The most cost-effective time to install hearing loop technology is during a building’s construction.
During construction, round burial wire was inlaid into the existing joints of the concrete floor. A single-phase “figure-eight” hearing loop design proves suitable to provide a clear, uniform signal thanks to low levels of metal in the church’s flooring. The hearing loop covers the entirety of the seating in the church’s nave.
The interior is breathtaking, with a vaulted ceiling hand-painted with gold stars and blessed effigies. The final flooring is stained and boasts an intricate joint pattern, one of many stunning features in the new sanctuary. Though the interior is spectacular, these features do not lend themselves to ease of hearing, making the hearing loop a blessed addition!
